Day 33 (8/19)

Today we practiced presentations all day. Tomorrow is our last day:[

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Day 32 (8/18)

Today I finalized my project and handed it into Joe. After that we had the Hawaiian Luau party for the SHARE collect. The afternoon was a lot of talking to other people about what happened this summer and what we worked on. I also learned Hebrew from Ory!

Day 31 (8/17)

Today I mainly worked on my presentation. I also tested out Kevins website, and its working perfectly.

Monday, August 16, 2010

Day 30 (8/16)

Today I finished up with working with Blender and DIRSIG. I got some help from Rolo, and now I have the final images in Envi with material properties. Its really good I know how to use DIRSIG now and it seems to be an amazing program. I also worked on my presentation and made final adjustments on my SUMO program.

Friday, August 13, 2010

Day 29 (8/13)

Today I worked more with SUMO. I also went to some of the talks around campus about various things. Later I worked with blender and did more screen shots for Rolo, after that I did some little stuff with my final presentation.

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Day 28 (8/12)

My blog is going to be shorter then usual today, because I pretty much did the same thing as yesterday, found out some new settings and ways to do things with SUMO, and worked on my presentation.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Day 27 (8/11)

Today I worked some more with blender and did more screen shots for Rolo. Then I worked with SUMO to make it more visually appealing and I changed some of the minor settings and code. After a nice picnic for the science department we went on a trip to the George Eastman House. It was so cool to see the really old images that they work with, and how in the future they hope to be able to fix the images under a microscope. After the field trip I got a lot done with my presentation. And now I get to finally go home.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Day 26 (8/10)

Today I worked some with blender and learned a lot about cmd prompt thanks to Kevin! I also worked more with SUMO and understood that the visual "errors" we actually supposed to be there and now I know hows to change the settings on it. I added a bus and an 18 wheeler to the simulation to see how to acceleration and length of a 18 wheeler compared to the car would affect the overall simulation. I also worked on my powerpoint and got some good tips from Rolo on what I should include that I was missing.

Monday, August 9, 2010

Day 25 (8/9)

Its hard to believe that we only have ten days left! Today I started with the blender stuff Rolo wanted me to do. I hit a roadblock with that and he was no where to be found. So I moved on to SUMO. Now I have 18 cars and 15 of them interact with eachother. Watch it here! http://screencast.com/t/MjhhMGEzOG . After that I continued to work on my final presentation and its coming along well.

Friday, August 6, 2010

Day 24 (8/6)

Today I worked some more with SUMO and the cars. Later in the day I did some blender stuff for Rolo, i'm not done with that yet but should finish Monday. I also worked on my final presentation. We also saw a presentation on 3-D imaging and how they do it. It was very interesting.

Thursday, August 5, 2010

Day 23 (8/5)

Today I got up to three cars on my map! I got two that follow a certain path and one that follows a path and stops at a red light and goes when it turns green. I also worked on my final project today. Tomorrow is going to be another busy day!

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Day 22 (8/4)

Today was the best day ever. I found out how to get the car to run on the RIT campus! The only thing is it acts like it "goes under" the road at some points. But at least I know how to do that now. I also did an experiment with the visual perception group. I wore a eye tracker and i played Modern Warfare 2 for a half hour. Then we played volleyball at the end of the day. After that I came back in and did a little more work with SUMO.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

Day 21 (8/3)

Today was a very good day! I finally got the car to work the whole time in the examples and I also got the RIT campus map up! All I need now is the route files to tell the cars where to go. This is gonna be difficult seeing as I have to look thru a 33 thousand line code to try to correspond the edges with the map. After the short meeting about the collect and what we will do with the data there was a fire alarm! Then campus safety said it was safe to go in and the fire alarm went off again. Overall a great day.

Monday, August 2, 2010

Day 20 (8/2)

Its hard to believe its already August! Today I worked with SUMO and the model of the RIT campus. This was made a lot easier thanks to open street map. It pretty much creates all the node and edge files for you so all you have to do it make the configuration and route files. I got the car to appear today! But only for a split second. Even the smallest mistake in the amount of spaces and placement of quotations and parenthesis can mess up everything. I hope to finish the route files tomorrow and get the car to appear for more then 1 second!

Friday, July 30, 2010

Day 19 (7/30)

Today I got a lot accomplished! We finally got netconvert running and the network worked and looks good, the only problem is that I can't get a car to appear for some reason, but at least I have the network working. For lunch we got pizza! And we got to listen to a lesson on document restoration, which was very interesting. Free pizza always makes days go by fast. After lunch I worked on creating the node files for the network of the RIT campus I am supposed to create. Its gonna take a while...

Day 18 (7/29)

Today was a day of waiting, we weren't sure if the collect was going to happen but we were expected to be ready if it did. In the morning I worked with blender a little to get familiar with it. After that we got back from lunch and at 2 o'clock we were told we had an hour to set up all the targets for the collect. If it weren't for all the other interns that helped we wouldn't have been able to get everything done in time. So thank you! After the collect we had to clean up everything, it was later then I usually stay and on my way home I realized i'm missing my sisters birthday dinner! Darn.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Day 17 (7/28)

Today I got up nice and early and set up a bunch of targets for the collect, then we realized there wasn't going to be a collect today...At least we got in a practice round for the real thing! I hope it happens tomorrow. After that I went to the DIP lab to work with SUMO and netcomvert. After this collect happens hopefully I can get some more help with it.

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Day 16 (7/27)

Today started off with an interesting experiment with Bob, we were all in a dark room for 15 minutes and then we covered one eye and went and walked around in light for a while. After this we went back into the dark room and opened our eye. It looked like we were blind in one eye! It was really cool and I think its called Dark Adapting. After that we went to the DIRS lab for a cool thing about a new program then we found out there would be no Spectir collection today and we are on hold for tomorrow. On a side note, Netconvert is the worst thing I've ever had to deal with.

Monday, July 26, 2010

Day 15 (7/26)

Today was an early day, I had to be here by 8 for the wasp collect. The collect was very interesting. I was in charge of collecting the GPS points for all of the tarps and fabric pieces, along with a couple boxes and a car. That totaled over 70 GPS points and took me untill 3 to finish. It was a long hot day, but I had a lot of fun!

Friday, July 23, 2010

Day 14 (7/23)

Today was pretty much dedicated to the collect coming up, we organized the clipboards and papers for Nina, and then we went outside in the pouring rain to try to get the GPS to work, after getting soaked we came back in. The bad part is we never got the GPS to work. Oh well. Hopefully the collect is Monday!

Thursday, July 22, 2010

Day 13 (7/22)

Today I got some help from Rolo with the netconvert problem, it was very helpful until we realized that the netconvert program isn't working and there was a Segmentation Error. Not good. So now i have to try to use it on the PC side. After that we went to another Ph.D defense. Im really starting to hate these! They are really boring even though the information is somewhat interesting. In the afternoon we measured out where to put the tarps and such outside. Then the day ended!

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Day 12 (7/21)

Today I worked in the DIP lab for a bit and then I went to see a Ph.D defense, it was very interesting but unfortunately I didn't understand much of it. After that we went to Pelligrinos for lunch! My Philly Cheesesteak sub was so good! After that we went to the U of R to see their Biomedical Engineering Department. The building was really cool and the labs were interesting as well. On the way back to RIT we found out that we can't play volleyball today because the weather is bad, oh well. I also found out that there will be no collect tomorrow! Which really stinks. Hopefully its soon!

Day 11 (7/20)

So today in our morning meeting Bob gave us there letters, IPESNRUHTERIRANP, and asked us to unscramble it... Toni, Kevin, and I solved it within 20 minutes, and it seemed to be just luck! The word we got was Intrapreneurship, which is the act of behaving like an entrepreneur, except within a larger organization. After doing that, today was the busiest day yet. In the morning we went to the roof with Nina and I learned how to use the GPS for the SHARE collect which may happen this Thursday. Then I played around with that and became pretty familiar with it, which it good because i have to GPS about 50 targets. Later I made a excel sheet with all the GPS stuff i'll need to write down. After our 3 o'clock meeting, I spoke with Rolo for a little and then talked to Nick about the GPS because he will be helping me. I'm hoping this collect is a success.

Monday, July 19, 2010

Day 10 (7/19)

I didn't feel like I got a lot accomplished today, but I think that was due to the fact that I jumped around a lot. I went from working with SUMO to doing wasp processing to researching crowd simulation and LandScan USA. There was a big problem with the wasp processing data so that wasn't too good. I hope tomorrow I can try to work more with netconvert and SUMO because I don't completely understand how to use netconvert yet. Tomorrow we have a meeting for the SHARE (SpecTIR Hyperspectral Airborne Rochester Experiment) collect. I hope that will be interesting.

Friday, July 16, 2010

Day 9 (7/16)

Today I started off by researching some more information for SUMO, I didn't start anything big because we have to leave for a thesis defense in a little. The thesis defense was very interesting and I learned a lot. At least I thought I did. After that we went back to the lab and I started working on some more SUMO stuff and UNIX stuff. Then we had an important 3 o'clock meeting about the data collect next week. Which seemed to be very unorganized, but I just sat there and listened! My day ended with some LandScan stuff just to so I wouldn't forget how to read the data once it came in.

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Day 8 (7/15)

Today I started in the Mac lab like usual and tried to start some more wasp processing, but once i realized May was still transferring back data, I couldn't do that. So I went on to tutorialize the program SUMO and I became very familiar with how to code the nodes, edges, and routes. The only problem is that I don't have the program Netconvert yet. I hope to get it tomorrow. The rest of the afternoon was spend working with the node and edge files some more. Overall it was a very good day.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Day 7 (7/14)

Today we had a morning field trip to JML Optics. We got a tour of the whole facility and saw everything that happens there. It was really cool and interesting to see how they make all the lenses and such. After that we stopped at Amiles for lunch, my sub was awesome. Thanks Bob! After an easy morning I went into the Mac lab hoping that we could transfer data over to do some more wasp processing. Since that wasn't working I played around with the Unix workstation to try to get SUMO up and running. I got that to work and then I played with some tutorials and then my day ended with a nice game of volleyball! I love wednesdays.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Day 6 (7/13)

Today started off good when Bob brought in bagels for everyone! After that I went into the DIP lab and did some more wasp processing for May, it was good practice to work more with the unix stuff to transfer all the data to my computer, it wasnt working at first but I ended up figuring it out which was good. I also worked with Rolo through my wiki page and I did more research. I cant get the SUMO program running so hopefully I can touch on that more tomorrow. I also found out today that my salary is being paid by a outside company called Goodrich which I was really excited to hear that they chose me. Thanks Goodrich!

Monday, July 12, 2010

Day 5 (7/12)

Today we started off with our daily meeting at 845 like always, from there I went into the DIP lab with Toni and Kevin, Toni and I met with May later and she taught us all about wasp processing and what is it and why we do it. Then we had to 'babysit' the IDL program while is was running. During the time it was running I researched more Crowd Simulation and then worked with LandScan USA to try to familiarize myself with that. The day quickly came to an end and now I have to go sit in my 95 degree car because the A/C takes forever to get cold. Hopefully it cools down in time for our volleyball game on wednesday!

Friday, July 9, 2010

Day 4 (7/9)

Since Nina was out today we were on our own, I figured i'd just be doing more envi tutorials and and reading up on SUMO and other similar programs, but no, when I got here today I looked at my task list on wiki and saw that I had loads to do! I had to research Micro-PedSim and make a tutorial on how to use it because I guess no one here has yet, so that took up much of my morning. After lunch I continued to work on that and eventually completed it. Then I researched other Crowd Simulation programs and found a few interesting programs that could be used. Thank god its Friday, I can finally catch up on some sleep this weekend. Monday I think we are going to meet with a graduate student, May, to help her process wasp data. See you on monday cyberworld.

Day 3 (7/8)

I started off the day by meeting Nina in the DIP Lab, which i now know is the Mac Lab. Then we set up our wiki accounts and made a task list of things to do for next week, after messing around with that we learned important shortcuts to unix. Then I continued to research unix, and also SUMO, also known as Simulation of Urban Mobility. I also touched lightly on Pedestrian Modeling, which seems interesting. I also found out that you can do this on the keyboard œ∑´®†¥åß∂ƒ©˙∆˚¬Ω≈ç√∫µ, very entertaining. After lunch we went upstairs and organized and took inventory for the tarps. Then we came back to the Mac lab, made an excel document for the tarp inventory, and then! the computers went crazy, really weird stuff was happening so the tech guy came in and obviously fixed it. Then I continued to work with SUMO and completed some envi stuff and the day eventually came to an end.

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Day 2 (7/7)

We started off today by talking to Nina about the summer and what we would be doing then we got a tour of the building and met some people we'd be working with throughout the summer. We then went to the mac lab and worked on getting to know the program envi. It took a little to learn but it became easier after just fooling around with it. After lunch we went back to the mac lab and continued to work on envi until Nina got out of her meeting...and then the day ended! Hopefully tomorrow will be more exciting.

Day 1 (7/6)

Today we learned how to swipe our time cards in and out, we also got a RIT lanyard. We then went on a scavenger hunt to find random things throughout the whole campus, we also had to video tape the whole thing. It was so hot but we survived. My favorite part of the scavenger hunt was when we were supposed to find a picture of a unisex bathroom sign and we asked some guy, that turned out to be a janitor, if he knew where it was. He went on to tell us that he cleans the "things" but he doesn't know where it is. hahah. Then we came inside to the meeting room and we got pizza! After lunch we went into the mac lab and made our scavanger hunt videos into a movie using moviemaker. The only problem was that no one knew how to use a mac. After we spent a hour making the movie, our computer froze and nothing could be recovered. So lesson of the day is that we should all stick to PCs. Joe Pow took us upstairs after watching all of the groups movies and we all got a free t-shirt, which was pretty cool. Then i met with my leader Nina. We talked for a half hour about what we'd be doing this summer, then the day was over!
